Narmmadaa Ahuja : I Won’t Like To Debut With Someone Very New

Bollywood star Govinda’s daughter Narmmadaa Ahuja seems to have set her preferences even before her first movie. The 21-year-old says she would like to make her debut with an actor who has at least one film to his credit rather than a newcomer.

“There’s no particular actor that I would like to make my debut with. But I won’t like to debut with someone very new. I’ll prefer my co-star to have done at least one film…He could be a fresh face, but not really a debutant or newcomer,” Narmmadaa told IANS over phone from Mumbai.
“A lot depends on the demand of the script…so until and unless that is ready, there’s no point thinking about the co-actor,” added the youngster who created a buzz when she made her first public appearance with Bollyood star and her dad’s friend Salman Khan at the IIFA awards in 2007.
Though Narmmadaa has no personal favourites among the young male actors, she says her father keeps praising a whole lot of them.
“I have no preferences for any actor. But my dad sees all the new movies with new boys and says – ‘Wah! Kamaal ka actor hai! (Wow! He is a fantastic actor)’. So he has his own favourites,” she said.
Asked about her own debut film, she said: “We have just started scripting so it’s a little too early to talk about it.”

'I find it silly to talk about Salman' "None of you know the real me yet". That was Shah Rukh Khan's message to the media, as he geared up to become the brand ambassador of the Korean Tourism Board.

As a part of the promotion, Shah Rukh Khan was also awarded an honorary black belt in taekwondo (a martial arts form in Korea).

Speaking at the event, Khan said he could never get bored of awards and recognition. "I am still like a child who seeks attention.
So even if people accuse me of buying awards, it doesn't matter. I am happy to receive them. It's all in appreciation of my work over the last two decades."

Shah Rukh said as more and more countries focused on India, Indians needed to be more accommodating towards other cultures, both within and outside the country.

SRK, after being honored by many foreign nations, will now be awarded with a special honor by the Korean government.
A close buddy of SRK says, “These developments took place a couple of weeks ago. Shah Rukh will be conferred with a Black Belt Honorary in Taekwondo. Not only that, he will also be the ambassador of the Korean Culture and Tourism. SRK is mighty excited at this and feels modest that he is going to be the recipient of such a prestigious honour.”
Respective delegates have arrived in India from Korea, and SRK is quite honored and touched by the Korean government’s gesture and has given his not to accepting the honor.

The big man Sanjay Dutt had his way he wouldn’t say no to any of his friends.

But then it hasn’t been easy managing his schedules in recent times. And for the sake of getting his schedules getting back on the right track Dutt has to do the unthinkable, and that includes turning down his dear friends, and an invitation to be part of an event being held in Macau right now.

Says a source from Goa where Dutt is currently shooting for Rohit Shetty’s All The Best, “A prominent representative Andre Timmins from Wizcraft in Macau came twice personally to Goa to invite Sanju. He was in two minds only because the Bachchans are such a prominent part of the event. “

Finally Dutt declined with a heavy heart.

Says the source, “He couldn’t allow producer Ajay Devgan to suffer any more. For two months Ajay waited patiently with his lavish set in Goa for Sanju to finish campaigning for the Samajwadi party. Now Sanju’s conscience wouldn’t allow him a day’s delay. He stayed back in Goa to shoot and allowed his leading lady Bipasha Basu to attend the event .”

Mozart of music A.R Rahman is shocked like rest of us by Michael Jackson’s sudden death and remembers the King of Pop with sadness. Rahman says, “I am shocked at the untimely passing away of Michael Jackson, one of the greatest musicians of our times. MJ, for most of our generation was an icon who made uncompromising music.

He pushed the milestone of Pop music to unbelievable levels through the 80s and 90s. I am yet to find an artist with that energy, perfection and vision. I met him personally after the Oscars in Los Angeles and we vibed very well. He said that he loved India and the Indian people. He said he heard good things about me and he was praising the chord progression of Jai Ho’s chorus. He was bursting with energy and told me that every dance move he did came from his soul and did a five second stunning example.

It was like a lightning strike. He was concerned about developmental issues such as Global Warming and about wars and its damages to the human community. He asked me to compose a unity anthem on the likes of “We are the World” for him. I nodded in awe…! He introduced me to his three lovely bright kids. The kids told him “I love you Dad”. And he replied, “I love you more” as a proud father. I wished him well for his concerts and he said “God Bless you”. After hearing the shocking news, I wished it was another rumor which would fade away soon. It took me time to believe that he is no more. I remember, my late sound engineer H. Sridhar had brought me a video of the premiere of ‘Remember the Time’ when I was recording ‘Kadal Rojave’ for my first movie Roja.

Seeing it inspired all of us that afternoon. Now, there is no Sridhar and no Jackson anymore. I hope all of us value people’s existence more and respect them when they are alive. LIFE IS SHORT…! Artists and their art live for ever. Jai Ho, MJ! We love you for your music, regardless of all the controversies!”

There was a controversy at IIFA 2009 in Macau, Ashutosh Gowariker director of Jodhaa Akbar, publicly said that Aishwarya deserved the best actress award for Jodhaa Akbar, not Priyanka Chopra for Fashion.

The whole Bollywood was shocked by Ashutosh’s comments, he said the same about Rock On at Star Screen Awards 2009 earlier this year and now his outburst against his next leading lady Priyanka Chopra. However Jaya Bachchan is supporting Ashutosh’s outburst, clearly stating that Ash deserved the award.

Jaya Bachchan’s name was mentioned by Ashutosh during the outburst, to which Jaya replies, First of all it is being presumed that Ashutosh unnecessarily mentioned my name regarding Aishwarya’s omission from the awards. The fact is, I suggested he bring up the question on stage at IIFA. We were discussing why Aishwarya has not been given any award for Jodhaa-Akbar and I suggested Ashutosh bring up the matter. So when he mentioned my name he wasn’t doing anything wrong.”

“The entire principal cast and crew of Jodhaa-Akbar have been rightly nominated for the popular awards and have won also. I find it very strange that Aishwarya who lived her part and looked every inch the royal Rajasthani queen in her body language and overall performance was ignored.”

For all I know she must be really good in Fashion. I haven’t seen it. But I’ve seen Priyanka’s work in Dostana and liked it. She’s undoubtedly a good actress. I don’t have any objection to her winning the award at IIFA. But I wonder why Aishwarya’s fine performance was ignored. I think she and the Jodhaa-Akbar cinematographer Kiran Deohans richly deserved recognition for their work.”

Despite the absence of many top Bollywood stars, the IIFA 2009(International Indian Film Academy) pulled off as a gala event amidst much glamour and glitter. It was a special event for the host Amitabh Bachchan as his wax statue from Madame Tassauds has been unveiled at this ceremony and was displayed there till June 13 after which it was sent back to London.

An overwhelmed Big B said, “I am very happy and I thank Madame Tussauds for considering me worthy of a wax statue. I hope many more from India fraternity join me in the museum.”

Daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai said, “The statue is nice but you can’t beat the original.”

The fashion extravaganza held at Venetian Hotel on June 12 was hosted by celebrity duo Zayed Khan and Sophie Choudhary, who appeared in Manav Gangwani creations. Many Bollywood stars walked the ramp showcasing creations by leading Indian designers Rocky S, Manav Gangwani, Anamika Khanna and Farah Ali Khan — along with a new collection by Hong Kong designer Chris Chang. Hrithik and wife Suzzane Roshan showcased the jewelary by Farah Ali Khan. Sonam Kapoor carried the stylish evening wear by Anamika Khanna with commendable poise. Bipasha Basu appeared in a creation by Rocky S, while Dia Mirza, Dino Morea and Madhavan modeled for Manav Gangwani, and Neil Nitin Mukesh and Mugdha Godse were show-stoppers for Siyaram. As an icing to the cake was the performance by international singing sensation Peter Andre.

The event also saw performance by the host family members Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan. Inspite of the absence of beau John Abraham, Bipasha Basu gave a dazzling performance. Nonetheless, IIFA, this year, missed many key players including SRK, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Preity Zinta, Ajay Devgan, and Rani Mukherji to list a few.

The movie's lead actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan failed to secure the coveted Best Actress award, but was instead named Best Actress Of The Decade and handed the prize for Outstanding Achievement In International Cinema.

Former Miss World, Priyanka Chopra, landed the Best Actress honour for her role in Fashion at the ceremony, which took place in MACau, southern China on Saturday night (13Jun09).

Such was the effect of Genelia D’Souza’s micromini that the traffic got jammed and the photoshoot had to be cancelled at Bandstand Fort, Bandra, where the hot lady was supposed to shoot a sizzling intimate photoshoot with Shahid.

The photoshoot was supposed to start at 4pm but when Genelia emerged wearing a micromini, the crowd started gathering and slowly went on to grow beyond controllable numbers. Even the cops despaired over the numbers. The unit members even tried to cover up Genelia with a pair of jeans, but to no avail. Finally the cops told the unit to cancel the shoot.

Well, if Genelia steps out in a micromini, who wouldn’t love to catch a glimpse???

The environmentally conscious "green carpet" has been rolled out and a collection of Indian cinema's brightest stars have gathered here Saturday for the night known as the Bollywood Oscars.

The awards ceremony concludes the three-day International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) gathering at the giant Venetian resort in Macau, which says all 3,000 suites available for the night have been booked up.

The ceremony will be attended by 500 Bollywood luminaries and an 8,000-strong audience that has flown in from all over the world.

For the Indian film family, the Bachchans, "this is our biggest event," said veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan.

"It is the night when we celebrate everything that makes the Indian film industry great - it is all about entertainment."

Organisers estimate that the awards in the southern Chinese territory will be watched by 500 million TV viewers across the globe.

"We can look back tonight on the way Indian cinema has grown over these years," said actor Anil Kapoor, star of the Oscar-winning hit "Slumdog Millionaire", which was set in the Indian city of Mumbai.

"It is a well-established fact that India produces the greatest number of films in the world today. Needless to say, Indians are crazy about cinema."

The glitzy night will be opened by Bachchan, the IIFA's ambassador, before a spectacular show gets under way.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, former Miss World and Bachchan's daughter-in-law, who is also nominated for the best actress award, will be one of the main draws during the show featuring colourful Indian dances and songs.

Up-and-coming actress Sonam Kapoor, daughter of Anil Kapoor, will make her maiden live performance.

"I might only have to walk a few steps on stage but I fear they might be the longest steps I will ever take," she said.

One of the first to greet fans was veteran actor Kabir Bedi, who starred as the evil Gobina in the 1983 James Bond film "Octopussy."

"This night means the internationalisation of the entire brand of Bollywood," he said. "Brand Bollywood has gone global and you can see that tonight -- it epitomises the best."

Stars Abhishek Bachchan, Sushmita Sen, and Govinda will also be appearing at the ceremony.

The six films vying for the coveted Best Picture award are "Jodhaa Akbar," "Ghajini," "Rock On," "A Wednesday," "Dostana," and "Race."

Film critics' tips for the top honours are divided between Indian epic "Jodhaa Akbar," action-thriller "Ghajini," and "Rock On," a story of four friends reliving their past together as a rock band.

"These three nominations alone can illustrate the diversity of the films that India can offer to the world," Taran Adarsh, a film critic and analyst of Bollywood, told AFP.

The extravaganza, now in its 10th year, is staged outside India every year in an effort to increase the international profile of Bollywood films. It features premieres, media sessions, trade forums, and a grand fashion show.

Previous locations include Bangkok, Johannesburg and Amsterdam.

"What's surprising is that in Mumbai, people in Bollywood do not interact with each other because life there is so hectic. It's only here that we interact with each other," said Adarsh, who has attended almost all the IIFA awards events.

Sabbas Joseph, director of IIFA, told AFP that this year's awards marked a decade of achievement for Bollywood.

"What's exciting is that this is really a golden decade for Indian cinema," he said, stressing that the victory of "Slumdog," which grabbed eight awards at this year's Oscars, was just one of the many examples of the industry's achievement in recent years.

"We have taken our films to many different countries and introduced many different genres," he said.

The event is being held in the aftermath of a damaging row between producers and multiplex cinemas over how box office receipts are split. The dispute was finally settled last week after a two-month stand-off.

Even before the dispute, India's 2.3-billion-dollar film industry was feeling the pinch from the global economic slowdown, reining in budgets and actors' fees as audience numbers dwindled.

"As with everywhere else, we feel the pinch. But the Indian film industry will get through it," Bachchan told AFP.
